The main aims of the drama department at Fearns are to develop individuality; to encourage students to think and express themselves with flair and confidence, but also to encourage tolerance and understanding. Students are given opportunities through practical role-play and written drama activities to experience the world around them and begin to appreciate situations from more than one perspective. Through drama, we encourage students to question and challenge their perception of the world in which they live.
Key Stage 3
Students develop and utilise their creative talents to organise a number of different performance pieces. They are also given the opportunity to develop a number of social skills, these include: communication skills, negotiation skills, respect and self-confidence, as well as specific drama skills, for example improvisation, freeze frames and character work. Pupils work individually and as part of a group and will begin to learn how to evaluate their own work and the work of others.
Key Stage 4
BTEC performing arts (acting)
The BTEC course will help you to understand acting, drama, theatre and performing in more depth. The course is suited to students who enjoy a wide range of drama skills and are interested in being actively involved in performing and creating drama. It will help you to develop your creative skills, performance skills and broaden your understanding of different theatre genres.
BTEC acting is an interesting course in its own right, or may lead to further study at AS/A level, BTEC or beyond.
