Money raised to foster reading in developing countries
PUPILS raised money to pay for books and librarians in other countries.
As part of World Book Day at Fearns a cake sale was held in the library.
Librarian Mrs Humphries said: “We raised £58.60 for Book Aid International. This charity provides books for primary and secondary schools in 25 countries across the world.
“They support mainly slum communities and also pay for librarians to be trained.”
There was also a book token design competition open to Years 7 and8. Nationally each year the tokens are distributed to primary and secondary schools and if one of the Fearns’ designs wins, it will be used all over the country.
Finally, teachers and staff all wore stickers with their favourite book title or the book they were currently reading and pupils had to collect as many as they could. Some staff also dressed as their favourite book characters.
