Amazing £1,006 raised in single day at Fearns for Macmillan
A SCHOOL’s charity coffee day raised £1,006 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Prefects at Fearns have held the event for the last three years and last year it ran for the whole day.
Teaching Assistant Mrs Thompson said: “Each year we have raised more and I was completely overwhelmed with the final total. A big thank you to everyone who came along and supported us.
“All of the Year 11 prefects were involved in helping to run the day and I would like to say a special thank you to five Year 10 girls who spent all of their lunchtimes over the last four weeks putting tickets on prizes for the tombola stall.
“We had a rolling tombola throughout the day with different presents for the each year group.
“Costa again kindly provided the cups for the coffee and drinks and Pastoral Mentor Mr Gibbons’s wife Kim made a beautiful cake to be raffled off.
“We would also like to thank the businesses who gave generously to support the event and all the cakes that were baked and brought in.”
James East, who enjoyed a coffee and cake with his daughter Emma, 15, said: “It is for a good cause and I am happy to be able to come in and support Emma.”
Adriana O’Donoghue, four, was delighted to get two green balloons from the event. Her mum Christine said: “My older daughter Shauna is 13 and last year we were not able to get to the coffee day do I am glad that this year we were able to come. Adriana has enjoyed it and she liked her cake.”
