Fearns Community Sports College occupies an extensive site on the edge of open countryside. We have excellent facilities for all specialist subjects in a complex of modern buildings. An extensive amount of refurbishment at the school was carried out in the summer of 2013. We appointed contractors to carry out the £250,000 improvements to our Science Laboratories. The toilets in the main building were refurbished along with the creation of a new communal space for pupils. Modern Foreign Languages, English and Humanities have also received a face-lift. We implemented a wireless network to further aid teaching and learning. We introduced a parent portal so that parents can monitor, in real-time, the progress of their child. We are striving to ensure that the learning environment is the best it can be enabling us to ‘achieve success together’.
Our Main Building.
The New Science department is sited in the main school building, together with English and Performing and Expressive Arts (Music, Drama, and Art & Design). The specialist music rooms include recording and editing facilities. There is an Arts Theatre, Drama Studio and four art rooms. The staff offer many opportunities for pupils to be involved in performances and music and drama clubs.
First Class Sporting Facilities.
The College's commitment to sport as a vehicle for raising achievement is evident by its investment in sporting facilities which are unique to the area: they include a large sports hall with indoor cricket pitches, gymnasium, multi-gym, a fully floodlit Astroturf and 3G pitches, a grassed area for soccer, rugby, cricket, athletics, etc.
At least 2 hours per week are spent on physical education and the varied programme includes: Soccer, Rugby, Hockey, Netball, Athletics, Badminton, Cricket, Basketball and Gymnastics. In addition to PE lessons, staff offer a variety of opportunities after the close of school for pupils to be involved in sporting activities and competitive team games, see full timetable here.
Moreover, our sports facilities are extensively used 7 days a week by the community. Check out Fearns Sports & Leisure Centre for details.
Four Storey Building
The MFL, Mathematics, ICT and Humanities departments, along with Curriculum Support, all occupy the four storey building in departmental suites of rooms. We have 4 ICT Suites and 3 suites of laptops available throughout the school. All subjects have access to the computer network and a wide range of software. A new wireless infrastructure makes the Internet available across the school to enhance pupils' learning opportunities.
The Learning Resources Centre is well stockled with a variety of reading materials and has a number of PCs and a suite of laptops to enable students to carry out online research..
